Middlesbrough have suffered a serious blow with striker Rudy Gestede likely to be ruled out for the remainder of the season.

The 29-year-old suffered a fractured ankle late on in Boro’s midweek 3-1 victory against Hull City having earlier scored twice.

Former Aston Villa marksman Gestede had only recently returned to action from a leg injury picked up at the beginning of the campaign.

“It’s a massive blow for us. Out of all of the strikers, he’s looked the most likely to score,” manager Tony Pulis admitted to Boro’s official website. “We’re really disappointed, but we’ve got options up there, whether it’s Patrick [Bamford] or Britt [Assombalonga], they have to step up to the plate.”
