Middlesbrough striker Scott McDonald is preparing for another summer of uncertainty and speculation over his future.

The Australian international has scored a dozen times this season to once again head the goalscoring charts at the Riverside.

But the 29-year-old already accepts that as one of the higher earners at the club and with new wage restrictions coming into operation next season, he is likely to be sacrificed in order to allow some valuable leverage to reshape the squad.

“We all know what the situation is,” McDonald told the Evening Gazette. “We all know that it will be another summer of question marks, stories and rumours about my future.

“It was like that last summer, with everything up in the air and a lot of talk about if I was going, when I was going, where I was going,” he continued. “But look, I don’t mind all the speculation. It doesn’t bother me. I can’t let it get to me or distract me. I just ignore it and get on with my job.”
