Substitute Mustapha Carayol scored two late goals to earn Middlesbrough a 2-0 victory at Blackpool.

The Gambian winger fired the visitors in front with six minutes remaining and then collected from Albert Adomah to add a second in added time.

Barry Ferguson was first to try his luck for the home side while Lukas Jutkiewicz was crowded out at the other end after being found by Emmanuel Ledesma.

But the action was decidedly slow and Ricardo Fuller tried a header before Angel Martinez finally tested the recalled Shay Given in the visitors’ goal.

His opposite number Matthew Gilks then turned over a cross from Ledesma while Rhys Williams was charged down after the break.

Boro replaced Marvin Emnes with Carayol on the hour but it was Ledesma suddenly going close with a free-kick against the crossbar after Jutkiewicz was brought down.

Then with six minutes remaining Carayol received from Ledesma and sweetly curled his finish into the net from the edge of the area.

He added his second deep into added time when Adomah broke down the left and crossed for the substitute to do the rest and secure maximum points.
