Middlesbrough midfielder Grant Leadbitter admitted he was surprised to be crowned as the Official Supporters’ Club Player of the Year.
But the 27-year-old former Sunderland and Ipswich Town schemer described himself as immensely proud to have been honoured by the fans and join a long list of impressive names.
“Everyone’s aware that I’m a Sunderland fan but since I’ve come to Boro it’s a strange feeling but Boro have got into my blood,” Leadbitter told Boro’s official website. “I’ve enjoyed it, I’m proud to say I play for Middlesbrough when someone asks me and long may it continue.
“I’m surprised to be honest, there are a few players who have had a good season but to be on the trophy with players like Bolo Zenden, Yakubu and Stewart Downing is a pretty nice feeling,” he added. “My name’s going to be on there forever and that’s makes me very proud.”
