Middlesbrough played out an unremarkable scoreless draw with West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns to preserve their unbeaten record since returning to the Premier League.

Brad Guzan was forced to save early from James McClean as the hosts pushed forward before Brendan Galloway also produced a response from the former Villa goalkeeper.

Neither side was in truth creating a great deal in the way of meaningful opportunities, although Matt Phillips had an effort blocked following the break before Cristhian Stuani finally drove straight at Baggies keeper Ben Foster.

Boro’s Daniel Ayala later saw a close-range effort claimed by Foster but the visitors won’t be complaining too much after a valuable first clean-sheet.
