Which Premier League club gave their Under 23 players the most minutes during the season of 2016/17?
Despite their relegation, Sunderland’s David Moyes showed the most faith in younger player in the season of 2016/17 giving a total of 12,657 minutes to under 23 aged players and Tottenham Hotspur came second in the table with Mauricio Pochettino handing out 12,098 minutes.
With them leading the way in sharing the top two amount of minutes to the next generation, Manchester United and Everton followed in third and fourth place with 10,774 and 10,367 minutes respectively and there was little between fifth placed Southampton and sixth place Arsenal with 9,908 and 9,089.
There is then a considerable drop off to Middlesbrough who gave out 7,893. With most clubs packed around the 4000-7000 margins of minutes, two clubs did handout less that Stoke City’s 2,859.
The worst by far was Chelsea’s Antonio Conte who only gave out 865 minutes to their youngsters, but surprisingly given the praise some of their youngsters have received, West Bromwich Albion’s head coach Tony Pulis gave only 877 minutes of action to their next generation.
