32 year old defender Abel Xavier has recieved a suspension by Fifa from all competitions after testing positive following a drugs test.
According to the club he was was tested after the Uefa Cup tie against Xanthi on 29 September.
The club have issued a no statement type of statement on their official notice board saying the club ‘does not feel it is in a position to make any comment at this time’.
The player is set to make a statement tomorrow morning after taking advice.
Xavier, has played for his country – Portugal – as well as Everton, Liverpool, PSV Eindhoven and Roma, as well as having a loan spell at Galatasaray.
Xavier has featured for Boro since the test, as he was part of teh 3-2 win over Aston Villa. Lets hope they don’t ask for a re-match!
