Middlesbrough manager Tony Mowbray believes three of his younger players will benefit from his decision to include them in the final day defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.
Mowbray awarded a senior debut to defender Christian Burgess while Ben Gibson and Bryn Morris also made rare first-team starts as the visitors eventually went down 2-0 at Hillsborough.
“It gave them the experience of a 30,000 crowd and the expectation that carries,” Mowbray explained to BBC Tees. “I wouldn’t be critical of them, I thought they did well.
“It’ll be a benefit to them,” he promised. “When young players play in big atmospheres it gives them the understanding of what it takes to be a professional footballer.”
