Boro earned a well deserved away point at Spurs thanks to Stewart Downing’s 30-yard strike on 69 minutes.

Aaron Lennon gave Spurs the lead in the first half after some dreadful defending from the Boro defence.

Out of nothing, Berbatov crossed the ball over his head to Lennon, who met it with a volley from close range. The ball deflecting off the knee of Grounds and rolling past Schwarzer to make it 1-0.

The first half was all Spurs as Berbatov was pulling all the strings for the home team. Tottenham could have doubled their lead before the break but wasted chances with some poor finishing.

The Boro players were out of sorts in the first period and looked very tired.

Southgate rallied his troops at the break and Boro came out very strong and almost scored an equaliser straight away when Wheater headed goalwards only for Lennon to head off the line.

Boro started creating chances in the second half and were very lively when they went forward with the ball.

Downing was full of running in the second half and he got his reward on 69 minutes when his right foot shot from outside the box deflected off Jenas and sailed past the Spurs goalkeeper into the back of the net.

Boro should have sealed the win towards the end but Alves shot wide of the post after being one on one with the Spurs keeper.

A dismal performance by the Boro players in the first half but Gareth Southgate got the team playing some great football in the second half and they fully deserved their point at the Lane.

I agree, Southgate needs to get a winning mentality going with his team. The players at the moment are just settling for mediocre draws when they can easily be winning games like this one.

Well good point, you could of nicked it at the death when Alves shot wide.
