There was disappointment for Middlesbrough as visitors Leicester City turned around an interval deficit to emerge as 2-1 winners at the Riverside.

Boro went in front ten minutes before the break when Lukas Jutkiewicz challenged a Mustapha Carayol cross and former loan defender Sean St Ledger helped past goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

The Foxes levelled on the hour with Danny Drinkwater driving a low 20-yard finish into the corner before seven minutes later Jamie Vardy grabbed a second from a sharp angle.

Both Jutkiewicz and Grant Leadbitter saw early attempts for the home side while there was a long delay following City defender Zak Whitbread departing on a stretcher.

Newcomer Dean Whitehead fired over for the hosts from the edge of the area and Chris Wood had a 25-yard free-kick diverted behind at the other end.

However, it was Boro then going ahead courtesy of St Ledger’s own-goal and Jutkiewicz and Carayol both then tested Schmeichel.

Leadbitter also forced a response from the visitors’ goalkeeper after his opposite number Jason Steele had already misjudged a cross that flew dangerously wide.

Leicester came out with renewed purpose after the break and went on to score twice in seven minutes to fully turn the contest around.

Following a period of sustained attacking, Drinkwater drew them level with a fine strike and Vardy swiftly added another courtesy of an excellent finish.

Substitute David Nugent then threatened to add a third until being denied by Steele, who also had to turn aside a further effort from goalscorer Vardy.
