Middlesbrough head coach Aitor Karanka is set to bring in former Real Madrid team-mate Ivan Perez Munoz as part of his revamped back-room team.

Perez revealed in the Spanish Press that he was to become “assistant” to Karanka at the Riverside, although it appears certain he will perform only in a back-room capacity.

Munoz was expected to fill a role as tactical analyst while focusing on team stats and performance data, and also offering reports on forthcoming opponents.

He replaces Karanka’s former helper Javier Egido, who left the club over the summer, and provides support to assistant head coach Craig Hignett, goalkeeping coach Leo Percovich and fitness specialist Carlos Cachada.
