Stewart Downing is on the verge of leaving the Riverside after spending almost all of his childhood, teenage years and early adulthood at the club he has loved all his life.
SkySports sources have announced that Aston Villa have offered Middlesbrough £12million for the services of Stewart with talks between Villa and the player being imminent.
It is a sad day for all Boro fans and everyone at the club, but this is a step forward for the club and for Downing. He will have a much better chance of playing in the Champions League in the coming years and also a move to Villa will give him a great chance of making the England squad for the World Cup next year.
Could there be a twist in this story though. Are other clubs still interested?
Good luck to Downing if he does go to Villa Park.
