Middlesbrough head coach Steve Agnew said the club must work out a clear way forward over the summer.

The Teessiders lost their final game of a hugely disappointing campaign 3-0 to Champions League-bound Livepool at Anfield, where Georginio Wijnaldum, Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana were each on target.

That left them with only five league victories all season and a final points tally of just twenty-eight while finishing second-bottom of the table.

“Liverpool have some top-class players and you wait for moments like that Patrick Bamford penalty shout and that did not go our way,” Agnew told BBC Sport. “It has been a difficult season and the bottom line is that we have not scored enough goals or won enough games.

“We need to use this summer to reflect and work out what we need to do to come back,” he added. “The chairman is the best in my opinion and I’m sure that talks will be progressing over the next few weeks about the future of the club.”
