Middlesbrough boss Garry Monk was delighted to record back-to-back home victories against Burton Albion at the Riverside.

New striker Britt Assombalonga struck either side of the break to move the Teessiders into an early fourth place in the Championship. Their visitors eventually finished with ten-men after substitute Hope Akpan was dismissed.

“It’s always good to put back-to-back wins together,” Monk told BBC Sport. “Overall, I didn’t think we started too well and gave Burton a little bit too much confidence but once we got that first goal we stepped it up a gear.

“We are playing in patches at the moment, but we look incredibly dangerous in those good patches,” he reflected. “We are striving for a complete performance, but it’s still early days.”

A good start to a season all fans will be relishing. This club is looking for an immediate return to the Premiership,it’s not always as easy as some might think.Look at Aston Villa, they spent over £40 million last season to finish mid table.I do think this club will be right up there,it’s hard to judge who else will be,possibly Villa,Leeds,Derby,so many big clubs spending big too.
