Middlesbrough are set to sign Chelsea’s Nigerian international defender Kenneth Omeruo on loan.
The 20-year-old is looking for regular first-team action and a chance to impress ahead of next summer’s World Cup in Brazil.
He originally arrived in West London from Standard Liege twelve months ago, and was instantly despatched on loan to Dutch top-division side ADO Den Haag.
Omeruo subsequently earned a place in Nigeria’s starting line-up as they collected the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
Both clubs are believed to have agreed a deal in principle, which is likely to be concluded by Monday as Boro head coach Aitor Karanka uses his connections with Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho.
