Middlesbrough’s teenage centre-back Ben Gibson has signed a new four-year-deal at the Riverside.

The nineteen-year-old has been on loan at current League One leaders Tranmere Rovers this season but could find himself returning to his parent club after recently suffering an abductor injury. He has already made 25 appearances for the Birkenhead club.

Gibson twice appeared at Wembley last season during a successful loan spell at near neighbours York City following an earlier stint with Plymouth Argyle.

His only senior appearance to date for Boro came as a substitute in the 2-1 win against Coventry City in April 2011.
