Former Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka has been appointed as the new boss of Championship rivals Nottingham Forest.

The 44-year-old Spaniard has agreed a two-and-a-half-year deal at the City Ground and therefore succeeds Mark Warburton, who was sacked at the end of last month.

Karanka was himself dismissed by the Teessiders in March 2017 having previously led them back into the top flight.

His first game in charge of Forest will be their weekend home game with Aston Villa.
