Has The Decision Backfired Already?

The one that got away.

Scott Carson was on Southgate’s radar during the summer months, but was persuaded by his back room staff to stick with Ross Turnbull and Brad Jones.

Will this decision backfire on the team. The answer is yes. Scoring goals is obviously a massive part of winning games, but conceding them is equally important. It ultimately costs the team points.

So, Scott Carson signed for West Brom in the summer and from that moment I knew that Southgate’s decision not to pursue the England goalkeeper would certainly return to bite us.

I knew that Scott Carson would have a blinder against us when we played West Brom. It was always going to happen.

Southgate must be thinking, why did we not sign Carson?

The West Brom goalkeeper has an inspired match against us on Saturday and was the thorn in our play, producing save after save.

Southgate must be thinking of changing his goalkeeping options for January.

We have a great defence, lets compliment that defence with a good keeper.

Maybe you should get out of your armchair and watch Turnbull in goal.

Yes, he’s guilty of an error, but the ball should have been cleared off the line by a defender.

You’ll find it’s been defensive errors responsible for our leaking goals, not Turnbull. Poor article tbh.

Turnbull has been excellent in goal and his good performances over shadow any error he’s guilty of by a long shot. Our goalkeeping issues are the least of our worries.

It’s moments like that when a defender makes a mistake – you can rely on your goalkeeper, but that moment cost us a point on Saturday. We do need to start firing at the other end though, it would take a load off the defenders and the goalkeepers backs.

When Turnbull ‘flapped’ at the corner when they scored it was because Mido had jumped into him. Other than that Turnbull had a good game. But yes, i would have signed Carson at the beginning of the season and got rid of Jones.

i think turnball is so cool but he need exp.

Turnbull and Jones have both done very well so far so this article is a load of crap. The goal on Saturday was a mistake by the defence and Turnbull saw the ball late. The defence is giving the opposition too many chances and we cant rely on the keeper to save everything.

Come on though you must agree Carson is better quality than either of our keepers, he showed us on Saturday how good he is. Yeah your right Turnbull has done well this season and you can’t always rely on the defence. Goalkeepers though, are the most important player on the park and if he makes one slight mistake it may, and did in our case, cost us on Saturday. A “better” keeper would have saved us that goal on Saturday.

i think the problem is at the other end. if alfonso and stewey wre on form we could easily be pushing for a champions league place.

the rumour mill has it that Boro are going to make a bid for Foster in the window

  • merlin says:

you need a good keeper, everything starts from the back!

  • Tiny T says:

Don’t always blame the Keeper there are 10 others who should defend better on the field as well
