Goalscorer Justin Hoyte definitely meant his opener against Sheffield Wednesday at the Riverside on Friday evening.

Hoyte became the seventeenth Boro player to score this season in the 3-1 victory which took his side top of the table. His only other strike for the Teessiders arrived nearly three years ago at Barnsley when his deep cross somehow found its way into the net.

“I definitely meant this one,” Hoyte told the Evening Gazette. “And I was delighted because it was a great strike. I caught it sweet. It was well worked and Manu (Ledesma) played a perfect ball through for me and I caught it just right.

“It was brilliant and I really enjoyed the celebration. I did a little dance and loved it when everyone jumped on me and joined in,” he continued. “Personally it was nice to get the goal but it was better for the team. That gave us a good grip on the game.”
