January Sales Start Early At The Riverside

If the transfer of Tuncay to Stoke City does go through today it will once again highlight our poor trading abilities with other clubs.

Ok, so we purchased Tuncay on a free back in 2007 and to get £5million for him will be seen as a good bit of business at the club, but let’s put this into perspective; would other chief executives/chairman in English football have let something like this happen?

Clubs across the country in particular the Premier League clubs will be laughing at us after this latest shambolic transfer sale.

Other clubs would have got near to double the amount we let Tuncay go for and for the majority of fans this is not acceptable.

Here is what Stoke City will be getting if the deal goes through for £5million:

*2008/09 Premier League season – 7 goals in 33 appearances with 4 assists.

*Tuncay is the current captain of his national side, Turkey and has scored 20 goals in 68 appearances.

*The versatile player can play through the middle of the midfield or as a striker.

*Tuncay is 27-years-old meaning his best is yet to come.

I hope the Middlesbrough chiefs know what they are letting go for such a small amount.

Oh and another thing – we can’t say anything about Tuncay’s wages being a burden on our newly structured wage-bill because if we had gone up with Tuncay still at the club we would have been in a position to sell him for far more than we have just accepted.

How is it we managed to scoop £12million for Downing and only £5million for Tuncay? Downing cost us nothing as well!

What I feared for you guys seems to be happening. Strong hearts would have taken the plunge in revenues and kept the players and sprung back into the Premiership. This selling of assets can only work if you are building a squad to get you back and keep you there. Is that it?
