Aitor Karanka praised Middlesbrough’s display after starting their season with a 2-0 victory against Birmingham City.
Goals from Spanish duo Daniel Ayala and Kike marked a first opening day win in six years for Boro at the Riverside.
“The fans who came today will go away thinking we have a team, and it is much better to think about the team,” Karanka told the Northern Echo. “Kike played very well, but I would not like to put one player above the team. The team is the most important thing.
“It’s a very long and tough race,” he warned. “It was important to win, but it was just the first game.”
