Middlesbrough’s on loan goalkeeper Shay Given has refused to be drawn on a possible international comeback.

The 37-year-old announced his retirement from the national side in August 2012 but has kept five clean-sheets in his last six games for the Teessiders since arriving from Aston Villa.

Republic of Ireland assistant manager Roy Keane watched on at the weekend as improving Boro defeated Charlton Athletic 1-0 at the Riverside.

“If Roy’s watching me, great, but I’ve not spoken to him or [manager] Martin O’Neill,” Given told BBC Tees. “Their next competitive game is in September – a way off.

“I’m just delighted to be back playing. All I’m concentrating on is playing for Middlesbrough,” he added. “Defensively we’ve been great, but it’s not just me, it’s the whole team defending as a unit.”
