On loan Middlesbrough forward Sammy Ameobi is really enjoying life in the Championship despite finding it tough.

The 20-year-old has managed three appearances so far following his arrival from Newcastle United at the end of Febuary. He immediately made an impact with a debut goal against leaders Cardiff City before setting up Scott McDonald for another in the next game at Huddersfield Town.

But a hamstring problem then sidelined him for a week and he rather struggled on his return in the home loss to Birmingham City.

“Middlesbrough are trying to get in the play-offs, and I’m trying my best to help the club do that,” Ameobi told the Evening Gazette. “Hopefully, we’ll get that play-off spot.

“It’s not easy. The ball turns over a lot more. There’s a lot more running,” he admitted. “You have to be strong, but I’m enjoying every minute of it. It’s going well, I’m glad to be getting some games under my belt. I’m feeling part of the team.”
