Derby County boss Steve McClaren admits it will feel strange returning to the Riverside this weekend.

The one-time England chief previously spent five years as Boro supremo and won them the 2004 League Cup.

Following eighteen-months in charge of the national side, McClaren was then appointed to the role at Pride Park last September.

“I had five great years there and still live in the area,” he told BBC Radio Derby. “This will be my first time in the away dug-out – it will be strange. But my total focus will be on our performance and trying to win.

“Derby and Middlesbrough are similar clubs in that they’re the real heartbeat of the town,” McClaren continued. “The football club is so important for the whole community because they take great pride in its success.”
