Middlesbrough have a home fixture against Preston North End this weekend – and are searching for a third league victory of the season.
New striker Martin Braithwaite will have a fitness check on the hamstring injury that’s kept him out since the opening day loss at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
However, centre-back Daniel Ayala made a welcome return to action for the midweek League Cup victory against Scunthorpe United – that following three games on the sidelines with ankle trouble.
The visitors could again be without Paul Gallagher due to suffering a recent head injury, while Tom Clarke (Achilles) and Greg Cunningham (knee) remain longer-term casualties.
Goalkeeper Declan Rudd (thigh), Calum Woods (groin) and John Welsh (calf) are other current absentees.
