Middlesbrough has today completed the signing of Egyptian international Mido for a fee of £6 million.

Boro beat off competition from Sunderland and Birmingham for the 24 year old striker. Mido goes straight in to the squad for Saturday`s game against Fulham.

Mido has had spells at Ajax, Marseille, Celta Vigo, Roma and most recently Tottenham.

I played against him as a player and he always impressed me’ said Boro boss Gareth Southgate on the official website. ‘He’s got good technical ability – he’s a goalscorer.’

Southgate added: ‘When you’ve got one of the best crossers of the ball in the league in Stewart Downing, you want someone like Mido who can head the ball.’

Middlesbrough have only scored once in their opening two games.

Spurs fan here…. I always liked Mido, he is a big confidence player and I think (and hope) that he will do well for you. Despite people saying he is lazy, he actually works selflessly and thrives on crowds getting behind him. In his first 18 months on loan he got around 20 goals in 60 games but 34 were as a sub. For all of the spurs fans slagging him off, there are a few who remember the days before Berbatov. Good luck and thanks Mido

Good signing. as a spurs fan, I will realy miss him.I can’t find any logic cause for some spurs fans to hate Mido although he did very well with us till he was not in Martin JOl preference without any obvious cause

Yeah Stevie Boy, i remember the days before Berbatov, days when we had to endure the inept Mido. Thanks Boro for getting him off our hands.

Im sorry, Ive been holding my tongue for a while. For any spurs fan who thinks Mido was a waste of time and money then your narrowminded and witless. On loan Mido scored 15 goals so he was signed to the club. The next season he started off the season with a groin injury. He had a bad year scoring only one goal (game winner against lowly west where berbatov and defoe and keane failed to help you guys out) due to no time on the pitch thanks to the mind of Martin Jol. Now Berbatov has had a great year, 20 goals i think, and has started off the second year with a groin injury. I wonder if Jol will cut his playing time as he did with Mido? I dont know, Mido was egyptian and I know that they aren’t favored that well in england. But they dont have anything against the bulgarians i think…

  • Spurs2008 says:

Their place of birth is not the issue, Berbatov is 10 times the player Mido will ever be.
