Middlesbrough manager Tony Mowbray was left disappointed as struggling Bristol City climbed out of the relegation zone with a surprise 3-1 victory at the Riverside.

Boro’s on loan striker Ishmael Miller cancelled out Albert Adomah opener but Stephen Pearson and Steven Davies added second-half efforts to win it for the visitors.

Their defeat leaves the home side in fourth place in the table ahead of the midweek arrival of Huddersfield Town.

“The result was disappointing and frustrating but that is down to the way we performed, and it must be said, the way Bristol performed,” Mowbray told BBC Sport. “They played well on the counter.

“Things just didn’t go to plan. We went more direct and it didn’t pan out. We changed the shape for the right reasons but it didn’t come off,” he continued. “But you can’t over-analyse it. We are still in the top six and there are still plenty of games to play.”
