Patience rewarded for keeper

Having finally made his Middlesbrough debut at the weekend, goalkeeper Dimitrios Konstantopoulos considers extended spells on the substitutes’ bench to be simply part of the job.

The 35-year-old has certainly needed to be very patient since arriving at the Riverside back in August. That followed 139 senior games for Hartlepool United and spells with Coventry City and AEK Athens, plus loans at Swansea City and Cardiff City.

“You have to learn to be patient – that is goalkeeping,” he told BBC Tees. “I’ve had this situation before and it does feel good when you get back playing. I think almost every keeper has been through this.

“The only thing to do is to keep working hard, take care of yourself and hope you impress the manager in training and wait for that chance.”
