Player Of The Month – March

March has been a poor month for Boro on the field, with just one win in six games. That run also included the largely forgettable performance against Cardiff City in the F.A Cup.

The side only scored three goals throughout the whole of the month, with Tuncay Sanli, Jeremie Aliadiere and Stewart Downing grabbing one apiece.

With Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Bolton and Sunderland making up April’s fixtures for the Boro, let’s hope the coming month brings us a little bit more joy.

Onto the results then. The top three candidates dominated proceedings, picking up a mighty 74% between them. The top two were neck-and-neck until the final vote count.

Here are the winners of March’s Vital Middlesbrough Player Of The Month:

3rd; Mark Schwarzer (12%) – A surprising candidate for March’s gong, the Aussie keeper has been safe not spectacular. The stopper has played in every game during the month, although his record of conceding six goals in as many games is hardly flattering.

2nd; Stewart Downing (30%) – The England winger picked up a huge chunk of the votes, after dominating March’s MoTM polls. Last month’s winner missed out by just 2% this time round, after impressing to the extent that Fabio Capello came calling.

1st; Tuncay Sanli (32%) – The Turkish striker has been impressive of late, leading the lead well and forging a strong partnership up front alongside Jeremie Aliadiere. Such is the extent of his good form that he has managed to keep £12m star man Afonso Alves rooted to the bench.
