Mark Schwarzer returned to the starting line up after returning from the Asia Cup.

It only took Middlesbrough two minutes to take the lead, after good work from new boy Jeremie Aliadiere he fed the ball to Stewart Downing he hit a cracking left foot drive to put Boro one up.

14 minutes later it was 2-0 as Yakubu headed home Taylor`s cross. Tuncay Sanli had another impressive game on wing and adds that spark that Boro has been missing in recent years. There was another 45 minutes for new right-back Luke Young who once again looked a good buy at only £2.5 million.

Well I wouldn’t be that eager to bring on a season that’s going to be very difficult for Borough, what’s going on their. You have some good younsters coming through, but you’ve not bought anyone that’s going to make you a stronger side. Surely Southgate must have money to spend, are their any signing in the pipeline
