Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate has hit back at suggestions that striker Tuncay Sanli could be on his way out of The Riverside in the summer.

Media reports in the past few days have intensified, suggesting that the Turkish international could be making a move back to his homeland.

Southgate, however, has come out to stongly deny such a development occuring.

‘He’s a good player and he’ll always be linked with moves and I’m sure lots of the Turkish clubs would want to take him,’ Southgate told the Evening Gazette.

‘But I’m very happy with what he’s done, I enjoy working with him and I don’t expect that to be an issue.’

‘I think Tuncay’s enjoying his football with us, I think he has improved as the season has gone on.’

‘He’s enjoying life here as well, he’s a very happy lad who enjoys his work and I think he’s been an asset for us this season and one we would certainly not want to lose,’
finished Southgate.

The 26-year-old has been linked with a £5m move to Galatasaray in recent weeks, although after settling into life on Teesside after his free transfer from Fenerbahce in the summer, the hitman is expected to be staying put for the forseeable future.

No way he is going anywhere. He is staying here for sure. If he wanted to play in Turkey he wouldn’t have left in the first place.
