SPeaking before tonights European game, Gareth Southgate has promised a positive approach to the game.
‘We saw last year winning the first game in the group gave us a terrific advantage, home games are very important in Europe, so if you can go and pick up something on your travels, then in a group where three go through, that puts you in a really strong position.
‘We came to Zurich hoping to win, but certainly trying to get something from the game, but that will be tough. It’s quite a tight ground and they are a team that are playing well at the moment. They have a good European pedigree about them, but the form we have shown recently gives us a lot of encouragement.’
‘It’s going to be very interesting,’ said Chris Riggott. ‘I am sure a lot of the fans – and myself – don’t really know an awful lot about some of the opposition. Maybe we know a little bit about Alkmaar with their manager, who is obviously very highly-regarded and respected, and that sounds like the toughest game.
‘But we need to get off to a good start and it will be a tough game in Zurich, make no mistake about that. We are going out there fully-prepared and to try to get stuck into them.’
