Caretaker manager Steve Agnew praised the spirit of his side following the scoreless encounter at Swansea City.
It leaves the Teessiders currently five points behind their seventeenth-placed opponents but with still a game in hand and a much better goal-difference.
“You could see that the fight is there. The spirit is terrific,” Agnew told BBC Sport. “Swansea have been in the Premier League for seven years, and this is our first season.
“It was difficult for us to sustain attacks but we kept going right to the end,” he added. “It’s another point and we will regroup.”
