Out-of-favour striker Scott McDonald could rescue his Middlesbrough career after recent talks with manager Tony Mowbray.

The 29-year-old is yet to make an appearance so far this season after scoring nine times last term as Boro only narrowly missed out on the play-offs.

“There was only one chat needed with Scott, I think we put a few things to bed and we are all getting on with it like adults,” Mowbray told
BBC Tees. “Scott over the next few weeks might be brought back into the fray, but he’ll have work to do.”

Mowbray understandably refused to give further details of why the Australian international had fallen so far out of favour this time around.

“What happens in our football club stays in our football club,” he added. “Other players have been working extremely hard to try and make an impact in the team and they will get opportunities to play in front of him.”
