Villa Raiding Boro’s Championship Closet

The Aston Villa Manager is rumoured to be stepping up his pursuit on another Middlesbrough player this week, but who!?

Martin O’Neill was at the Riverside on Friday night watching us deliver our first point of the season.

The Villa boss must have known Tuncay was missing through illness so who else was he looking at? David Wheater and Robert Huth?

If he was looking at our two central defenders, then both would have impressed as they marshalled the Boro defence very well en route to a clean sheet.

Let’s talk money

Gareth Southgate has his poker face on again as he tries to outwit buyers for his prized assets. Southgate told the official site:

‘Robert has the physical attributes for this division but he also has composure on the ball too. In addition, he has started to develop excellent leadership qualities.’

So as the rumours come in Southgate has very cleverly added that our big German defender is developing excellent leadership qualities. That will add a few more pennies to the price tag.

Surely we will be wanting a very good price for the defender if Villa are interested. We paid £6million for him three years ago and I’m sure the club will be looking to get that figure from a Premiership outfit.

The Wheater, Huth and Tuncay transfer saga continues.

As a Villa fan I’ve never been sure about Huth, he was highly rated but doesn;t semm to have made that next step

Hampered by injuries, but when fit he is a class act. He’s had a good run in the side since February. Fingers crossed his injury woes are behind him.

  • Mikkel_Beck says:

I think he could stay ’till January then he’ll be out to prove himself. Having said that with the likes of Metzelder and co vying for other places in the German’s centreback position I think he could play in any league and still get in.

With him giving an interview sayin id like to stay and plus just been given the captains arm band would seem abit odd to jump ship, but its down to gibbo basically if he leaves its about the money, id rather villa have tunny than huth IMO! If i was the german coach id rather pick a fit huth playin week in week out with middlesbrough then anyone like Mikkel_Beck said, on his day he is one of the best! Hope he stays because were going to need the “berlin wall” this season!!

i dont want him to be sold because him and wheater can b at the back for years to come
if we do sell him we need to put the money into our midfield more than our forwards
we need a midfielder that can pick out small passes
digard is good at long balls but is more defensive then attacking
we will c how we go

  • Mikkel_Beck says:

I’ve just had a thought, why haven’t we signed Didi Hammann?!

  • TheSlaven says:

Yeah great shout Beck! Hamann is nearing 36-years-old, but I’m sure he would be a solid addition for a season especially if Digard is fit for one game and then out for the next three over the season.

  • BoRoLaD88 says:

Notts county are trying to seal a deal for hammann, if that gets pulled of then fair play!! But its all about the money there the man city of the football league! lol

Boro — please give O’Neill short shrift. He’s asset stripping you and you need every good player you have to get back in to the Premiership. Apparently less than half of teams bounce straight back.
