We beat ourselves – Mowbray

Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray believed his side were responsible for their own downfall following their 2-1 home loss to Watford.

On loan striker Matej Vydra netted twice for the visitors, the first following a rare error from Boro skipper Rhys Williams, with their opponents only managing an injury-time reply from Scott McDonald – his eleventh of the season.

“I think we beat ourselves today,” Mowbray told Boro’s official website. “We had all the chances but didn’t score and then we shot ourselves in the foot with the goal we conceded.

“We really smothered them in the first half and I thought we were on top but to go 1-0 down in the manner we did was very disappointing,” he added. “We had a full week to prepare for it and I thought the game plan was good but we needed to score the first goal.”
