Middlesbrough’s on loan forward Sammy Ameobi is hoping for an extended run in a more central attacking midfield role.

The 20-year-old was switched inside to play off lone striker Ishmael Miller for the midweek 0-0 draw with Peterborough United after previously starting his other games out wide.

“I really enjoyed it on Tuesday. It’s not a position I’ve played in a lot, but the more versatile I am, the better chance I have of becoming a footballer,” Ameobi told the Northern Echo. “It was a bit tougher in the second half because I had someone dropping in to follow me, but it was good.

“It’s just unfortunate we weren’t able to get the goals to kill the game in the first half,” he continued. “It’s a position I’d really like to play in more regularly in the future. I think it could really suit my laid-back style of play.”

Ameobi has scored once in five appearances for the Teessiders since arriving at the club in February.
