The fee agreed by both clubs was £5.5million for the full-back with an extra £500,000 if he plays 60 games for Villa.

It has been no secret that Middlebrough have been in financial difficulties and the time has come for the people that run the club to start turning things around.

A profit with the sale of Young to Villa is a great turning point for the club. Boro bought Young last year for £2.5million and one year on are now selling him for a potential profit of £3.5million. That is good business.

Some fans might think that it was a ridiculous sale due to the lack of experience the side now have, but Southgate and Gibson are now seeing the bigger picture in terms of taking the club forward.

It may take a few seasons though and Boro fans will have to be patient. The club does not have the funds to achieve overnight success.

Are we beginning to get it right off the pitch? What do the fans think?

At first i was a bit disappointed as i thought it was for £4 million, but at £6 million i am more than happy and i think we have got a great deal.

I think its a great sale and we have made alot of money over the corse of one season, like ive said we do need to bring in somebody to fill the shoes of luke young and the manager and chairman agrees i think if we get a player young and experienced for around 3-4 million we have done great.
