Why Did Luke Young Join Villa?

Middlesbrough fans will be slightly shocked after seeing one of their most experience players leave the club.

Luke Young has joined Villa for an undisclosed fee which could be as much as £5million. Middlesbrough officials have welcomed the move as being a good bit of business for the club but, I think they have made a big mistake. We have now lost two of our most experienced players.

The only experience we have in the defensive line up now will be Emanuel Pogatetz at 25-years-old and a slightly younger Robert Huth at 23-years-old. They are both still very young in footballing terms, this might be a big problem next season.

We have already lost Mark Schwarzer to Fulham and now we have sold our other experienced head at the back. Gareth Southgate will definitely need to bring in an experienced right back and may be forced into signing an experienced goalkeeper as well, going back on his word but to the relief of the Boro fans.

So, what were the reasons behind Luke Young’s decision to join Villa?

He spoke to Villa’s official website last night saying ‘There was interest last summer, but it didn’t quite happen for whatever reason. I’m just glad to find myself here now.’

So Boro were in fact his second choice team to sign for after Charlton got relegated. Thanks a lot.

He then added ‘I think this is a great opportunity for me to try and win something. I think at the minute Villa are a notch above Boro and there’s a great opportunity for me to play European football as well.’

Fair enough, he wants to play at a higher level next season. We wish him all the best for the future. He had a super season with us last year and we would have loved him to stay but with money like that being thrown at the club it is hard to say no.

There must be a pay increase somewhere! Players don’t just move clubs for wanting to play at higher level. I’m afraid there are a lot of mercenaries in the game today.

Funny how things turn out eh, with Boateng, Southgate and Ehiogu all joining Boro from Villa a few years back “to win things”.

Yeah they won the league cup! Ok a bit of a mickey mouse cup but at least it was a turn in fortunes for them. Since Southgate, Boateng and Ehiogu left Villa Park what have you guys won apart from the IntertToto Cup?! I can clearly remember Soutgate saying when he left you guys “I want to achieve” – personally, I think he has. He is now a manager of a Premiership club having played in a wining league cup final and a Uefa Cup final, ok we lost but it was an achievment to get there in the first place.

    1. Bigger club. 2 European football. 3. Warmer climate. 4 Won’t be in a releagtion dog fight.

The first three points you are spot on as they are facts. Fourth point is opinion. We’ll see come the end of the season whether your optimistic vision will come true.
