Middlesbrough are believed to have made an approach for Bournemouth’s free-scoring striker Lewis Grabban.

The 26-year-old was one of the leading scorers in the Championship last season and had been close to joining Brighton in January. Originally signed from Rotherham United two years ago, Croydon-born Grabban netted 22 goals in 46 appearances for the Cherries last term.

As a result of his goalscoring exploits, play-off semi-finalists Brighton continue to monitor his situation while Premier League survivors Crystal Palace are similarly said to be interested.

However, Boro hope to persuade Grabban to return north as Marvin Emnes and Lukas Jutkiewicz were both expected to move on this summer, with on loan Danny Graham rejoining parent club Sunderland.

Bournemouth have since denied receiving a bid from any club for one of their prized assets.
