Middlesbrough have rejected an improved offer of in the region of £800,000 from Nottingham Forest for midfielder Grant Leadbitter.

Forest had already failed with an earlier £400,000 bid for Leadbitter, who only arrived at the Riverside on a three-year deal from Ipswich Town last summer.

The 27-year-old went on to become a virtual ever-present, making 47 appearances and scoring four goals before being named as their supporters’ player of the season.

And with Leadbitter already regarded as absolutely integral to Boro’s hopes this season, manager Tony Mowbray will certainly be desperate to retain his services.
