Out-of-favour midfielder Merouane Zemmama has left Middlesbrough by mutual consent.

The 29-year-old Moroccan international appeared 48 times for the Teessiders and scored seven goals following his arrival from Hibernian in January 2011.

However, he struggled to hold onto a first-team place under manager Tony Mowbray, with most of his limited involvement coming off the bench.

“I’d like to thank Merouane for his efforts while he was here with us,” Mowbray told Boro’s official website. “The decision we have reached is a mutual one and I would like to wish him well and every success in the future.”
