Middlesbrough were expected to raise transfer funds by selling three of their leading players.

The Teessiders are set to scoop around £30m by releasing Adama Traore, Gaston Ramirez and Marten de Roon, according to the Northern Echo, as newly-appointed boss Garry Monk is handed the largest transfer budget in the Championship.

Monk has already suggested he wants to shake things up after relegation despite not having to sell against his wishes. However, the club still hope to keep hold of key defender Ben Gibson.

Winger Traore’s £8m move to West Ham United could though be completed later this week and midfielder Ramirez may again revive interest from the previously keen Leicester City.

Meanwhile, Dutchman de Roon has already been on the radar of fierce Serie ‘A’ rivals Lazio and Roma.
