Boro snap up winger

Middlesbrough have snapped up Newcastle United winger Sammy Ameobi on loan until the end of the season.

Ameobi, 20, is the younger brother of Magpies striker Shola and has made fourteen appearances for the Premier League club this season.

But the England Under-21 international hasn’t actually featured for them since their FA Cup defeat to Brighton in January, although remains contracted to St James’ Park until 2015.

“He’s an out-and-out wide player, who can operate on either side, and will be ideal when we want to play with two wingers,” Boro manager Tony Mowbray told BBC Sport . “He will hopefully give some players a lift and create some competition.”
