Middlesbrough are anxiously waiting to learn of the damage to defender Justin Hoyte while on international duty.

The full-back suffered an injury during Trinidad and Tobago’s Gold Cup meeting with Haiti last week and missed their subsequent 2-0 victory against Honduras in Houston.

Trinidad still have at least one more game to play in the competition and it’s not yet known whether Hoyte will return home early.

“It was disappointing to see he limp off on Friday night after 70 minutes,” Boro manager Tony Mowbray told the Evening Gazette. “We’ve spoken to their physio to assess what the damage is and we think he`s got a sore groin.

“That’s a big disappointment for us because the positives of being away playing football is that there would be a fair chance he would come back fit, up to speed and ready.”
