Chance missed for Boro

Manager Tony Mowbray was left reflecting on missed opportunities as Middlesbrough exited the Capital One Cup following a late 1-0 defeat at Swansea City.

Defender Seb Hines was unfortunate to head past his own keeper with only nine minutes remaining after the visitors had appeared the more likely outfit for long stages at the Liberty Stadium.

“Cup competitions are about getting through to the next round, and we didn’t manage that,” Mowbray told Sky Sports. “It was a tough game, fine margins. I could easily be sitting here having won 1-0, or having lost 1-0.

“Credit to Swansea, they are in the semi-finals of the cup and good luck to them,” he continued. “We gave a decent account of ourselves. It was a game we could have won.”
