Middlesbrough centre-back Dael Fry remains convinced his side will be challenging for promotion this season.

The 20-year-old defender had been forming a developing partnership with Ben Gibson, himself an ever-present in the Championship this time around, until recently being left out against Brentford.

“The manager [Garry Monk] has been great since he came in with his staff,” Fry told the Evening Gazette. “He’s changed a lot of things from previous years.

“We’re just adapting to him and when we do, things will click, and there’s no doubt that we’ll be challenging for promotion this season.”

Boro return to league action this weekend with a trip to Barnsley following the recent international break.
