Defender deal falls through

Middlesbrough appear to have given-up the chase for Spanish full-back Juanfran.

Boro had agreed a fee with Real Betis last month and were confident he would be on his way to the Riverside.

Juanfran even visited their Rockliffe training quarters, and although being suitably impressed, stated he wanted to keep his options open.

Now the defender looks to be on his way to Italian Serie ‘A’ newcomers Palermo – with the Teessiders instead switching their attentions to other possible targets.
