Sidelined defender George Friend has backed Middlesbrough to respond positively from a rare defeat last time out.

Boro suffered a first loss in ten games at Cardiff City at the weekend but the 25-year-old summer arrival from Doncaster Rovers was expecting his colleagues to swiftly bounce back.

“We are still well placed after that and are upbeat after losing so narrowly in a game when we all think we probably should have won,” Friend told the Evening Gazette. “Now we all know we have to bounce back quickly and get back into our stride.

“We won`t be complacent though,” he warned. “In fact, having lost at Cardiff we will be more focused and more determined to win.”

Friend won’t be involved in the game having being ruled out for between 4-6 weeks with a hamstring injury suffered in South Wales.
