Middlesbrough full-back George Friend is remaining upbeat despite the blow of his weekend injury.

Boro lost the services of the former Doncaster Rovers defender during their narrow defeat at Cardiff City, with manager Tony Mowbray expecting he would be out of action for between 4-6 weeks.

“I’m hoping it isn`t that long,” Friend told the Evening Gazette. “It doesn’t feel too bad. I’ve never had a hamstring problem before so didn’t know what to expect.

“I hope it isn`t too bad and I’m back fairly quickly,” he continued. “It is a blow for me because I`ve had a good run in the team and was feeling just about as fit as I ever had in my career.”
